President Agrees to Delay EU Tarrifs

He made the decision after a “very nice call” with President von der Leyen.

President Donald Trump announced Sunday that he will delay the 50 percent tariff on European Union (EU) imports from June 1 to July 9. President Trump made this decision after what he called a “very nice call” with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen earlier that day.

“[Von der Leyen] said she wants to get down to serious negotiation,” President Trump said at Morristown Municipal Airport in New Jersey. “July 9 would be the day, that was the date she requested. Could we move it from June 1 to July 9? I agreed to do that.”

“She said we will rapidly get together and see if we can work something out,” the president added.

This decision is in keeping with similar tariffs imposed against other nations, with President Trump similarly pausing or reducing steep tariffs against China, Canada, and Mexico.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump to be led by the Lord as he negotiates trade and tariffs with other presidents.
  • For wisdom for members of the president’s trade team as they engage foreign trade ministers in discussions.
